How to Share Amazon Alexa Skills with Friends and Family

Silver Echo, Nightstand

There are thousands of Alexa Skills for the Amazon Echo and when you find a gem, you can share it with others via email or social media.

Alexa Skills are like apps for your smartphone or extensions for your default web browser. They allow you to get more out of your Echo or other Alexa-powered smart devices. At the time of this writing, the number of available skills is well over 15,000, and that number continues to grow. But, just like mobile apps in an app store, quantity doesn’t always equal quality. There is an entire section of Alexa Skills in various categories, and when you find one that you know someone else would like, is easy to share it.

How to Share Alexa Skills

When you do find a useful or fun Skill that you want to share with friends or family you can do so over social media or by sending them a direct link. Open the Alexa app on your phone or go to Alexa on the web and choose Skills from the options menu.

Alexa App Skills

Find new skills in the Alexa app on your mobile phone or tablet.

Then look through your current collection of skills or search for the one you want and open its description card. Select the share button on the top-right corner and choose the social service you want to share it with. Currently, it supports the usual suspects like Twitter and Facebook. If the service you need isn’t listed, you can copy the link and share it manually.

Share Alexa Skills Social Media

Tap the Share button and share the Alexa Skill via social media, text, email, or copy the link.

We’ve shown you how to find and enable skills that will be the most helpful to you. Just like mobile apps, when it comes to Alexa Skills, it’s all subjective. What’s worthless to you might be essential for another person. For example, if you are a listener to podcasts, AnyPod is a great skill to enable. Or, if you’re a fan of trivia, check out the Jeopardy skill.

In fact, games are becoming quite popular for Alexa, and Amazon recently announced Echo Buttons for playing them with other people. If you have other smart devices in your home, you’ll probably want that specific skill for it. Whatever the case, the sharing feature makes it a lot easier to show other Echo owners the Skills you like.
