In addition to being your local streaming media server, Plex is continuing to add more and more streaming content, this time premium music from TIDAL.

Plex, the streaming media server solution for cord cutters is once again adding more quality content to the platform. Today the company announced it is partnering with the global streaming music platform, TIDAL. If you haven’t heard of it, TIDAL is a music service specializes in delivering quality music. Its Premium and Hi-Fi streaming music subscriptions are what set it apart from other services like Apple Music or Spotify.

TIDAL for Plex

The TIDAL service offers over 60 million songs, 244,000 music videos, thousands of curated playlists, and hundreds of live concert events. This fits in well with Plex’s goal of providing its users access to more streaming content for various online sources. “An incredible music and media experience is something that matters to both TIDAL and Plex users,” writes Plex CEO, Keith Valory. He explains this will move Plex closer to providing quality content from the Plex app “on any device, anytime.”

The Premium TIDAL subscription provides high-quality music streams with 320kbps, CD-quality sound. The Hi-Fi membership provides lossless hi-res tracks using Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) technology. The lossless (uncompressed) tracks are in the form of FLAC files with a bitrate at 1411kbps. The later is meant for users who take music seriously and demand audiophile quality sound.

At launch, TIDAL’s entire music catalog will be available through Plex. Other features include artist recommendations, universal playlists and search, discovery radio, and music videos (over 244,000). Another interesting feature the TIDAL/Plex partnership provides is Augmented Artist Radio which is a Plexamp feature. It will generate a music mix from an artist or group to include tracks from TIDAL.

If you want to try out Plex with TIDAL, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial. After that, Premium membership starts at $9.99/month but for Plex Pass subscribers the cost is only $8.99/month. TIDAL also offers Family, Student, and Military plans for varying subscription rates. Of course, TIDAL will integrate with Plex on every platform it’s available which is virtually all of them including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Xbox, and others.
