If you’re at work or out and about, you can send new apps to your Fire TV at home through a browser on your computer or phone.

Just like Apple TV and Roku, there are several different channel apps available on Fire TV. While you can certainly browse for new channels directly in the Fire TV interface, you might find it easier to find and install them through your browser on your PC or mobile device. This makes it easier to find the apps you want and install them faster. If you’re a new Fire TV owner, here’s a look at how it’s done.

Add Fire TV Apps from your Browser

Head to the Apps & Games page on Amazon’s site and there you can browse through the thousands of apps available by what’s featured, on sale, date released, specific categories, and more. Of course, here you can also search for a specific app, too. It’s worth noting that you might want to refine your search for the Fire TV model as some of the larger, more complex games will only work on a set-top box and not a stick.

When you select an app on the site you get a description and some screenshots and can read the rating reviews. Then, if you have multiple Fire TV devices, pick the one you want to send it to from the drop-down list and click the “Get App” button.

If you have multiple Fire TV devices, make sure you pick the right one when sending an app to it.

That’s it. Next, you get a confirmation screen telling you the app will arrive on your Fire TV in a few seconds. You will also see a list of related apps that you also might want to take a look at. When you fire up your Fire TV the next time, you should see the new app installed and ready to use. If it isn’t there, go to Settings > My Account and choose Sync Amazon Content.

After you send a new app from a browser to your Fire TV, it only takes a moment for it to show up and be ready to use.

You can install apps from Google Play to your Android device by sending them to your phone from a browser. Amazon’s Fire OS is a forked version of Android that runs on its Fire tablets and TVs and you can do the same. I find this method to be easier when I have free time during the day and want to load up my Fire TV with apps to have available when I get home.

This is useless. I can get to the amazon page, but where is the search box to search for a specific app?
