Use Alexa Voice Control with Amazon Prime Photos on Fire TV

Amazon added Alexa support for Prime Photos on Fire TV. You’re able to display photos on the big screen by using voice commands.

Amazon this week added Alexa support for Prime Photos on Fire TV. You will be able to find photos by using voice commands with the digital assistant. This will allow you to more easily find and view photos on the big screen without having to manually dig for them.

Since the Prime photos app comes pre-installed on Amazon devices, there isn’t much you need to do in order to take advantage of this new experience. To start the app all you need to do is say “Alexa, show my photos” to your Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, or even the Echo Show. Your photos will come up on your TV and from there you can manually flip through them with your remote, or better yet, use additional voice commands for Alexa.

You can ask Alexa to display your photos from various albums (“Alexa, show my wedding photos album”), photos from a certain date, a particular location, or specific items. The mobile app has a facial recognition feature that finds pictures of the same person throughout your photo library and groups them together. That means you can ask Alexa to show pictures of specific family members or friends.

Another interesting advantage of Prime Photos is a feature called Family Vault. It lets up to five family members upload photos to an album everyone can access. Then you just say, “Alexa, show family vault photos” and it will come up and you can even tell Alexa to play a slideshow of an album.

If you have the Echo Show you can display your photo library on there, too. Or, you can have it take a picture. Just say, “Alexa, take a photo.” There are a lot of commands you can give Alexa to display your photos and you can read more on Amazon’s pagePrime Photos Echo Show

Of course, to use this new Alexa ability you will need to be an Amazon Prime member which is $99/year after a free 30-day trial. Still, while this does make for a better photo viewing experience, you still need to upload your photos yourself from your phone or computer. There are just some things Alexa can’t do…yet.

If you’re an Amazon Prime member and use this new feature leave a comment below and let us know how you like it.

This is the functionality that is most impressive with the Google Home. My wife clicks the shutter button on her iphone and without touching a single additional button will later walk into our family room and ask for very fine details in photos and the TV turns itself on, input sets and the photo in 4K and HDR appears.

But this was with the Google Home and Google Chromecast and she uses Google Photos.

Hard to imagine Amazon can emulate this functionality as you have to be able to understand photos and the detail in photos .
