What we do

We publish daily tech news, tips, and reviews. That’s our business and in order to keep the website free vs. paid subscription or a paywall, we show ads to our readers and offer a free newsletter to keep up-to-date with all our content.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help determine if the comment is legitimate or SPAM. This information is also provided to the service Akismet to check if it’s legitimate or SPAM.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Like almost all sites on the internet, we use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit my site. Although this will never make me rich, it does allow me to operate the site and keep it free for anyone who is groovy. These third-party companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to save your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

GroovyPost users several Google Service for Analytics and Advertising purposes. How long we retain your data

Comments

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Other Data

Users who register on our website to either sign up for a Paid subscription or Donation, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Comments

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service called Akismet. This is a standard service used by almost all Websites on the internet. Its privacy policy can be found here.

Other Data

We do not collect, process or store any financial information from our users. Instead, we leverage third parties to process all support subscriptions and donations. Newsletter

As a groovyReader or subscriber to my newsletter, you can expect the following in regards to your privacy:

  1. If you sign up for my newsletter, your email address will only be used by my site, groovyPost. If you cancel your free subscription, I will delete your email address immediately from my newsletter system.
  2. I will never sell, trade, transfer or give away any information you provide me. Period. No exceptions!
  3. I will never ask for or collect purposely any personally identifiable information for any reason. In the odd event it’s been collected or left on my site, please contact me and I will purge it from the site immediately.
  4. As of May 2018, I use AWeber as the service which delivers my newsletter. The AWeber Privacy Policy can be found here.
  5. At the bottom of email Newsletter, email is a link to unsubscribe. All data about you will be purged from AWeber 30 days after unsubscribing.
