What is Spotify Blend?
Spotify Blend is a feature that allows you to automatically create a playlist with up to ten other people. The playlist is based on the listening history of all of the people who you add to it.
You can create collaborative playlists in Spotify where multiple people can add songs, make edits, and reorder tracks, but this is a manual process that requires users to add the songs themselves. Spotify Blend automatically creates a curated playlist based on the listening history of all the people who are part of the Blend.
Each song in the playlist includes an icon to identify which person’s account was responsible for the song being added to the playlist, so you can see which are ‘your’ songs and which came from other members of the Blend. The Blend also updates daily, so you’ll never hear the same playlist twice.
Spotify Blend is great for situations such as road trips with multiple people. You can instantly create a playlist that mixes everyone’s musical tastes so that you’ll all know and enjoy at least some of the songs in the playlist.

How to Use Spotify Blend to Create a Playlist with Friends
If you want to use Spotify Blend to create a playlist with friends, it’s quick and easy to do, although it’s not at all obvious unless you know how. You can create a Blend with just one other person, or as many as ten.
How to Create a Spotify Blend on Mobile
You can create Blends both on mobile and on desktop. The process is similar but creating a Blend on mobile makes it easier to share your invitation link.
To create a Spotify Blend with friends on mobile:
- Open the Spotify app.
- Tap the Search icon.
- Tap in the search field at the top of the screen.
- Type ‘blend’ and select Blend from the results.
- Tap Create a Blend.
- At the bottom of the invite page, tap the Invite button.
- Use the sharing options of your phone to send the invitation link to the person who you want to make a Blend with.
- When the person accepts your request, you’ll see your newly created Blend next to the Create a Blend button in the Made For You section.
- Tap on the Blend to see your playlist. Each song will have an icon next to it indicating which person’s music the song was selected from.
- In the banner at the top of the Blend, you’ll see an animated icon.
- Tap the icon to see information on how well your musical tastes match, as well as information on songs that you both like.
- To invite more people to your Blend, tap the Invite More icon.
- Tap Invite More. You can share the invite link with other people. You should note that anyone you invite to a Blend can also invite people to that Blend.
How to Create a Spotify Blend on a PC or Mac
You can also create a Blend on desktop, although you don’t get the same share options that you do on mobile. Instead, your invitation link is copied to your clipboard for you to share however you see fit.
To create a Spotify Blend on desktop:
- Open the Spotify app.
- Click the Search icon in the left-hand menu.
- Click in the search field.
- Type ‘blend’ into the search field and click the Blend genre from the search results.
- Click Create a Blend.
- At the bottom of the Invite Friends page, click the Invite button.
- You’ll see a message confirming that the invitation link has been copied to the clipboard.
- You can now share this link via email or messaging app.
- When the recipient accepts your invitation, you’ll see the new Blend in the Made for Us section, next to the Create a Blend icon.
- Select the Blend and you can see the newly created playlist. Each song will have an icon indicating which person’s music it came from.
- Unlike on mobile, there is no option to view your Blend Story, and no quick way to invite additional people to the Blend. You’ll need to copy and paste the original invite link that you sent out if you want to add other people to your Blend.
How to Use Spotify Blend to Create Playlists with Artists
Spotify has also given us the ability to create Blends with a limited number of popular artists. This not only allows you to create a playlist that is a mix of your favorite music and a famous artist’s favorite music, but it also allows you to see how well your musical tastes match with that artist.
You’ll need a specific link in order to create a Blend with an artist.
To create a Spotify Blend with an artist:
- Open this article on a browser that is on the same device where you have the Spotify app installed. This could be on a PC, Mac, or mobile device.
- Click one of the following links to create a Blend with that artist (this list may not be fully exhaustive, so be sure to check the Spotify website for any other artists):
- Your Blend is created with a mix of the artist’s songs, some of their favorite songs, and some of yours.
- On mobile, you can see your Blend Story by tapping the animated icon.
- You’ll see how well your music matches with the artist.
