Amazon Announces New Alexa Devices and Services
Amazon today introduced a slew of new devices and services. Here’s a look at what you can expect from the company.
Amazon today held its annual devices event where it launched a new generation of Alexa-powered hardware and services. It announced a smart thermostat, Echo Show 15, Amazon Kids+ additions, “hey Disney,” Amazon Glow, and more. Here is a look at the highlights.
Echo Show 15
The new smart display features a 15.6-inch display and is powered by a second-gen AZ2 Neural Edge processor. It can be used in portrait or landscape mode and wall-mounted. Or it can be used on a stand with Visual ID features that identify people in the room to customize their display needs. It includes widgets that can act as a TV in the kitchen with the support of multiple services including Sling TV coming soon. It will initially cost $249.99 and be available later this year.

Amazon Smart Thermostat
This is an affordable smart thermostat that was co-designed by Honeywell Home and will work with most 240-volt HVAC systems. It comes in with a price of just $59.99 and utility-provider rebates could lower that price further.

Amazon Glow
This is an interesting device that is dedicated to video calls aimed at children. This allows them to communicate with their parents, grandparents, and other family members even when they are not physically together. It features an 8-inch display and a 19-inch touch-compatible projection area for interacting with users in a virtual space.

Halo Hardware and Services
The company is building a display-less Halo band and for $3.99/month, Halo service with a Halo View fitness wearable offers an AMOLED display, seven days of battery life, waterproofing, and customizable bands for $79.99 – which includes one year of the Halo service for free. Amazon originally introduced it last summer.

Amazon Astro
The Amazon Astro is a household robot for home monitoring and includes a 6-month free trial of Ring Protect Pro. “Keep home closer with Astro, the household robot for home monitoring, with Alexa. When you’re away, use the Astro app to see a live view of your home, check in on specific rooms and viewpoints, and get activity alerts. When you’re home, Astro can follow you from room to room playing your favorite music, podcasts or shows, and find you to deliver calls, reminders, alarms, and timers set with Alexa.” Similar to Echo Frames, this is a Day 1 device which means it’s available by invitation only. Which is fine considering it costs $999.99! Still, looks like an interesting device.

Other Device and Service Announcements
Some other things Amazon announced today were Amazon Kids+ improvements that get new content providers including Do, Re & Mi – a Super Spy Ryan mobile game, ARPO Robot Babysitter, and LEGO Monkie Kid.
“Hey, Disney.” This is a service that Disney used to Alexa’s custom assistant capabilities to build its own digital assistant. It can be used alongside Alexa and soon at Disney’s theme park hotels. It will let you interact with characters from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, and more.
There is also a new version of the Blink Video Doorbell for $49.99. It can be used wired or wire-free and features a long-lasting battery. It features HD video, night vision, motion detection, two-way audio. The Blink floodlight cam is $139.99 and is powered by a LED floodlight that works with the Blink Outdoor Camera. There is also a new Solar Panel mount for $129.99 that powers the device directly from the sun.
