Spotify, the popular music and podcast streaming service, has many essential features. It also has fun things you can do, like find and share your yearly Spotify Wrapped playlist for artists you’ve listened to the most over the year.

Another new and fun Spotify feature is creating a “Playlist in a Bottle” to send to yourself next year. It’s an in-app feature that allows you to create a musical time capsule that’s locked away until 2024.

The process is straightforward from the Spotify app on Android, iPhone, or iPad. Here’s how to create yours.

How to Send a Playlist in a Bottle on Spotify

Spotify is introducing a new feature that allows you to put a playlist in a virtual bottle and send it to yourself next year. The experience captures where you are musically now, and it’ll enable you to revisit your future musical self a year later in 2024 to compare your musical listening tastes.

Creating a Playlist in a Bottle on Spotify is straightforward, and all you need to do is answer a few questions and choose a virtual bottle or other containers. In addition, you can add additional songs to the playlist, which you can listen to next January.

To create a Playlist in a Bottle on Spotify, use these steps:

1. Before getting started, ensure the Spotify app is up to date on Android, or you have the latest version on iOS.
2. After updating the Spotify app, open a browser and navigate to Spotify’s Playlist In a Bottle website.
3. The Spotify app will open to the Playlist in a Bottle page to begin the process of creating your music time capsule.
4. Click the Get Started button at the bottom of the screen.
5. Select the time capsule you want to use. For example, you can choose from a gumball machine, a lunch box, a teddy bear, an acorn, a jean pocket, or an actual bottle.
6. After selecting your item, tap the Next button at the bottom of the screen.
7. Answer a quick set of music questions, such as the song you need to hear live in 2023, a song that reminds you of your favorite person, or a song you’re going to kiss someone to this year.

How to Complete Your Playlist in a Bottle on Spotify

While you get three questions to create your music playlist time capsule, you can continue to add more songs by having it ask more questions or search for them manually.

1. When you go through the steps of answering questions, ensure you hit the Next button after answering each question.
2. After completing the questions, tap the I’m Done button, the Keep Going button, or tap Next Question to add more music to your playlist in a bottle.
3. When you’re ready, you can tap the Lock In button to continue.
4. Alternatively, tap Add Songs to put more content in your time capsule.
5. When you complete the questions and add songs, you can digitally seal your musical time capsule. In addition, you can tap Share to spread your musical time capsule on social media if you are so inclined.

Spotify makes the ability to create and share a musical time capsule easy using the steps above. Once your musical time capsule is sealed, it’ll be sent to you in January 2024. It’ll remind you of what you were listening to the previous year.
